"If Music Be the Food..." (IMBTF) is a national collection of benefit concerts to raise awareness and support for the hungry in local communities through the sharing of great music donated by professional musicians. The endeavor is entirely volunteer and there is no fixed price for admission -- the audience is invited to bring non-perishable food items or monetary donations of any amount for the partnering food bank. The complete quote from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is "If music be the food of love, play on!"  IMBTF strives to help provide food for our bodies as well as music and community for our souls.

Temple Emanuel Denver is proud to host this joyful annual concert to benefit the Weinberg Food Pantry of Jewish Family Service during the Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot.

Sheila Reinhold, curator of this concert, first performed as violin soloist with orchestra in her native New York City at age nine. At fifteen, she joined Jascha Heifetz’s master class, where she studied for five years. Her career has included chamber music with Heifetz and cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, appearances as a soloist with major orchestras and premieres of works for both violin and viola. Her varied career has also included work on major films and Broadway productions, and appearances in concert and on recordings with popular artists such as the late Tony Bennett and Aretha Franklin. She has had a lifelong dedication to teaching, serving as adjudicator, guest teacher and chamber music coach at, among others, the Juilliard School, Mannes College, Manhattan School of Music, Eastman School of Music and Columbia University, in addition to her private teaching, and in the summer she is on the faculty of the Chamber Music Conference and Composers Forum of the East at Colgate University. She also teaches courses for adult music lovers through the University of Denver. She is the founder and Music Director of Intimate Voices, a chamber music series in New York City, which has been presenting chamber music concerts and community outreach events since 2009.

Sandra Wong began studying the violin at age seven with the intention of becoming a concert violinist. This remained her sole focus for fifteen years until she discovered fiddling. Opening this door with an exploration of Irish, Old-time and Bluegrass music, and then continuing with falling in love with the nyckelharpa, a 14th century Swedish folk instrument with keys and 16 strings played with a bow, her folk music journey has moved her into a career of teaching, performing, recording and collaborating with other musicians from a diverse range of musical genres. Sandra has toured nationally and internationally and been a featured soloist as both a classical violinist and fiddler. Her playing can be heard on recordings from Sounds True to Ken Burns documentaries and a diverse range of albums from renowned Tibetan musician Nawang Khechog to Flamenco, Norwegian lullaby, Kirtan, Classical, Folk, Americana and more. She has been covered in publications from the New York Times to International Musician Magazine, and her stages have ranged from Caramoor to natural amphitheaters in the Grand Canyon where she delights equally in playing for all beings. Sandra creates and personally facilitates musical study trips to different countries, leading people into the heart of individual folk cultures through the music and dance of each country. She strives to nurture a deep love of music and the arts in both children and adults, teaching privately and in group settings in Boulder, Colorado, via Skype and wherever her music takes her. Sandra donates a percentage of all CD sales and concert ticket sales to organizations working to create sustainability in all aspects of life.
